We are small dept, with a relatively small call load (650 annually). We have about 25 members but 10 are jrs, and unlike some of the other depts I have read about on this forum, jrs DON'T respond to calls, no matter how short staffed we are, it's just unsafe.

Our dept is part of a county wide volunteer mutual aid dept but we are trying to get more 18+ yr olds in the dept.

We are located in Florida, where a couple years ago the state fire marshal past into law requiring all volunteers to go through the State FF1 course to enter the hot zone. As you can imagine, to a new recruit, 160+ hrs of training is a big turn off to join the dept.

What are some of the recruitment and retention tools other dept use to get more volunteers and kepp the ones they have?
