when the call is dispatched we're givin the channel which is usually the main responce channel. All calls are run on that channel, but when we get to house fires, and MVA's huge gass leaks....etc....we switch to a private channel souly used for that incident. And all our portibles are on the same frequency as the fire trucks

our portables are pre-programmed, and the one of the channels is our fireground. When you turn on a protable, its automatically on the fireground. Only the chief & engineer are automatically on fire dispatch.

We have 3 channels. 1 main, 1 North, and 1 talk around. We use the main channel for all calls that are south of our repeater. When we go north we switch to the North channel. All the talk around channel does is make it so dispatch cant hear us. So if we are doing training with a lot of radio communications we go to that channel.

Yes once on scence we switch to a fire ground channel we have five fire grounds in the county. Command will monitor fire channel 1 and the fireground channels. All personnel working the hot zone are required to have a radio.

Yes...we have hundreds and hundreds of radio channels. On our HT's we have up to 20 different banks, each bank can hold roughly 10-12 different radio frequencies. Each bank is set up according to where we go most often, for example...one bank might be full of Federal radio frequencies, another might have all the tac nets, another might have the frequencies of all the various HQ's around the state, and so on and so forth.

We have one freq. that we stay on that is our main dispatch, it's called our Support Net...when we are dispatched to a fire, they give us a TAC net (tactical) that we talk to each other on at the scene...Once we get a bigger incident, we might have a Command net, that the IC's all talk to each other on, two or three different tac nets, depending on where you are, and what repeater you need to be on, as well as Air to Air, and Air to Ground nets...we also have a talk about, which is a line-of-site option that doesn't utilize repeaters...we also have them in our engines and call it Travel Net, so that as we're driving on strike teams around the state, we can talk to each of the engines without having to use a repeater, which would require you to change the tone repeatedly as you move up and down the state.

We have 4 frequencys... A,B,C,D or 1,2,3,4

Local Dispatch on A (My dept is dispatched by the city PD)
County Dispatch on B
County Fireground Ops on C
I dont know what happened to D though... We never use it. For the most part, unless its a big call we just stay on A because its very quiet. Only 4 out of about 38 depts get dispatched on it.

WE USE AN 800 MHZ TYPE 2 TRUNKING SYSTEM.
ON OUR PORTABLES AND BASE RADIOS WE HAVE :
COUNTY FIRE DISPATCH: MOST OF OUR TRF TAKES PLACE HERE ON ROUTINE CALLS.
COUNTY FIRE DISPATCH 2: HANDLES ALL SUPPORT REQUESTS IN TIMES OF HIGH DEMAND (WINTER STORMS, THUNDER STORMS, ETC)
THEN WE HAVE OUR TAC (FIREGROUND) CHANNELS
THEY ARE 1- 30. THEY ARE USED FOR LARGE MVA'S AND WORKING FIRES
ON TOP OF THAT EACH DEPARTMENT HAS ITS OWN PRIVATE CHANNEL THAT ONLY THAT DEPARTMENTS RADIO'S CAN HEAR. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THERE IS AN EMERGENCY CHANNEL FOR IMMEDIATE NEED FOR HELP. (MAN DOWN SITUATIONS.)
