Volunteer Recruitment « Result #1 on Oct 13, 2007, 3:21am »
We are small dept, with a relatively small call load (650 annually). We have about 25 members but 10 are jrs, and unlike some of the other depts I have read about on this forum, jrs DON'T respond to calls, no matter how short staffed we are, it's just unsafe.
Our dept is part of a county wide volunteer mutual aid dept but we are trying to get more 18+ yr olds in the dept.
We are located in Florida, where a couple years ago the state fire marshal past into law requiring all volunteers to go through the State FF1 course to enter the hot zone. As you can imagine, to a new recruit, 160+ hrs of training is a big turn off to join the dept.
What are some of the recruitment and retention tools other dept use to get more volunteers and kepp the ones they have?

Re: extrication in EMT-B « Result #3 on Mar 29, 2007, 8:31am »
We had a little talk about extrication, but our class was geared as such where all of the students would be riding on ambulances and fire would be there to extricate. The instructor pretty much said you take care of the Pt, let fire do the extricating...

Re: radios « Result #4 on Feb 15, 2007, 2:10am »
WE USE AN 800 MHZ TYPE 2 TRUNKING SYSTEM. ON OUR PORTABLES AND BASE RADIOS WE HAVE : COUNTY FIRE DISPATCH: MOST OF OUR TRF TAKES PLACE HERE ON ROUTINE CALLS. COUNTY FIRE DISPATCH 2: HANDLES ALL SUPPORT REQUESTS IN TIMES OF HIGH DEMAND (WINTER STORMS, THUNDER STORMS, ETC) THEN WE HAVE OUR TAC (FIREGROUND) CHANNELS THEY ARE 1- 30. THEY ARE USED FOR LARGE MVA'S AND WORKING FIRES ON TOP OF THAT EACH DEPARTMENT HAS ITS OWN PRIVATE CHANNEL THAT ONLY THAT DEPARTMENTS RADIO'S CAN HEAR. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THERE IS AN EMERGENCY CHANNEL FOR IMMEDIATE NEED FOR HELP. (MAN DOWN SITUATIONS.)

I've been very busy « Result #8 on Jul 25, 2006, 5:37pm »
To all those that have signed up to the website, or are having problems, I apologize.
I have been very busy. I recently had a baby boy, and I am working on getting my career as a firefighter organized. All of that with trying to find a decent job until that time, and doing some moving, has kept me away from the site.
I currently have the time and will try to make the site more active to all of those involved with it. If you have a problem, please feel free to email me at firefighter508@gmail.com, and I will work the best I can to resolve the situation.
I hope to see more of you active with the board, and if you know anybody interested, please refer them to us.
